KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Women Development and Special Education Rubina Qaimkhani has said that her department will provide a platform for the craftswomen of Tharparkar to promote their handicrafts and get them due return for their work.
During a two-day visit of Tharparkar along with a group of journalists from Karachi the other day, she inaugurated vocational centres for Women at Maal Naur and Nangharparkar.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, she said the Women Development Department Sindh is setting up Sales and Display Centres in each district of the province, adding that a centre has been established in Mithi Taluka of Tharparkar district as well.
She lamented that the skilled artisans of Tharparkar are not getting reasonable amount for their beautiful handicrafts, while the middlemen are earning hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Rubina Qaimkhani vowed that the handicrafts made by the women of Tharparkar will be promoted at the internatinal level, adding that such steps will bring improvement in the living standard of the women of the desert.
Talking to APP, a villager Rekha Kumari from Maal Naur Colony said that Rubina Qaimkhani is taking personal interest in solving their problems. She expressed the hope that measures will be taken at the government level to address their problems.
She called for ensuring government’s assistance for the skilled artisans of Tharparkar and for getting them their due return.
She hailed the announcement of the establishment of vocational centre and distribution of sewing machines free of cost among women.
Another woman in Nangharparkar, Kumla Bai, expressed her gratitude to Rubina Qaimkhani for realising the dream of the womenfolk by giving the house of one Riyan Bai the status of a vocational centre and for promising the distribution of sewing machines.
She said that the present government is working to create employment opportunities for the women of Nangharparkar which will improve the standard of living of the local women.
