MULTAN: As many as 82 mourning processions including South Punjab’s one of the biggest procession of Mumtazabad reached their destination peacefully on 9th of Moharram.
Thousands of faithful did noha-khawani, mourning and self-flagellation amid tight security arrangements. Rescue 1122 officials and Health department also set up centers at scattered places to deal with emergency like situation.
A total of 2947 police officials performed duties to guard 186 Majalis and 82 mourning processions here on Monday.
According to police, among these processions, 42 were licensed and 40 traditional, out of these nine were declared in “A category” while 73 in “B category”. The sources informed that 1103 police officials including four inspectors, 43 Sub inspectors and 36 assistant sub inspector performed duty with the mourning processions along with their other colleagues and senior officers.
The police further said that 1844 police officials including 50 sub-inspectors and 82 assistant sub-inspectors were deputed for 186 Majalis in the district. Police have kept 44 Majalis in “A category” while 142 in “B category”. Besides this, reserve police also remain alert to react in case of need.
