Social media is a mode of social interaction among people in which they create, share or exchange information, ideas, and pictures/videos among virtual communities and networks. Now a days most of the brands/companies are focusing on Social Media to interact with their users directly.
Social media is different from traditional or industrial media in many ways, including quality, reach, frequency, usability, immediacy, and permanence. There are many effects that stem from internet usage. According to Jamal Siddiqui, internet users continue to spend more time with social media sites than any other websites. At the same time, the total time spent on social media in Pakistan by the means of PC and mobile devices increased by 60 percent from last year.
Here are some social media blunders which should be avoided by the companies and firms while marketing their products and reaching their audiences.
Avoid blunders on Social Media:
Mixing up your brand’s social account with your personal account.
Being confused and correspondent between your personal and professional or brand’s social media account is the prominent blunder which can sometimes be disastrous and can make things go south and sour.
Not monitoring your social media activities 24/7
In this modern world of technology, everything is moving fast and people globally are eager to expand their horizons in this fast and furious world for which they constantly remain correspondent 24/7. But, some companies who do not monitor the problems, complaints and feedback’s 24/7 in this fast moving world faces the most problems. If the companies who prefer to work during the office allotted timings i.e 9 am to 5 pm wont be able to address the problems and feedback’s of their consumers and product users.. This eventually will give the company a difficult time for making their brand stable for a longer period of time, they are than answerable for this loss as well as for the negative trending headlines. The quote fits in perfect here, “ The social media never sleeps.”
Everything in the social media world is automatic. This is completely true, because nowadays there are tons of automated apps to schedule your posts, change your profile pictures, responding to canned replies, following every other social account you possess and many other uncountable things.
But with these advantages of the automated world of social media apps there are several disadvantages which becomes problem in the future term for a brand or a company, as no one is completely interested in talking to a machine. Live conversation here matters a lot and through the machine it’s nearly impossible. Just imagine if you are the customer and you wrote a detailed message describing what your issues are with a brand’s service or product or you’re asking for assistance and reassurance and what you get is an automated response that sounds cold and callous. How would you feel? I bet angry and frustrated. So it is best to use automated tools to a minimum and if there’s a crisis, make sure to turn those apps and tools off. Remember that for online interaction to be effective it needs personal attention and the human element. And here’s another tip. When you’re interacting online be more human, talk like a real human being does.
Immediately jumping on board new trends
Importance of Hash-tags in the social media world is pretty prominent. Hash-tags basically helps you to gain a wider market reach for a brand and a product you are sponsoring or marketing. But, are all Hash-tags responsible for this purpose is a debatable question. The answer to this question is No!! Not all these Hash-tags are responsible in gaining a wider market reach. The Hash-tags the companies are using for marketing their product or brands needs to be trending and in use by the social media users.
There is however, one thing that companies do worse than this and that is throwing their brand on a news trend in some unrelated way just because, well, it’s a trending topic. Doing so can only make your brand come off as conniving and insensitive. But perhaps the worst blunder that companies have made that we observed is around brands starting a promotional campaign for their community of followers to share stories of their experiences with the brand without assuming that the interactions would be all about positive stories failing to realize that interactions can turn out to be nightmarish experiences. Big companies that have made this terrible assumption include McDonald’s and JP Morgan. To avoid this you should carefully examine past promotions that have gone awful as precedents.
Not having an internal social media policy
Social media policy which enables a company to assess the social leaks. These policies not only minimize the burden of these social leaks and problems, but they also derive a proper framework and solution to eliminate and solve the occurred problem. If the employers of a certain company are unaware about the company and associated information regarding the company or a brand, so these problems could easily arise which can compromise the internal working of the company.
The 5 above stated social blunders are responsible of creating a lot of damage to a particular Brand or the company. By working out on these blunders before time can avoid the huge deal of headache in the future. All is needed is to do research and to play attention to the past blunders of yours as well as of others.
