Modest recovery was seen in the value of the rupee against the dollar on the currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee moved slightly up versus the dollar, gaining five-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying at Rs 102.85 and it also picked up three-paisa for selling at Rs 102.90, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee appreciated by five-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.80 and Rs 103.00 respectively, they said.
The rupee also gained 50-paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 128.50 and Rs 128.75, they said. In the third Asian trade, the dollar nursed modest losses as investors took some profits on a four-session rally that swept the greenback to multi-year highs, while the euro was helped by report of a rift at the European Central Bank over its easing strategy. The dollar index last traded at 86.978 after shedding 0.3 percent, recoiling from a four-year peak of 87.406 set on Monday.
Against the yen, the greenback stood at 113.51, off Monday’s seven-year high of 114.21. The euro bounced to a high of $1.2577 from a two-year low of $1.2439. It last traded at $1.2560. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.36, the greenback was at 3.3355 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.111 in terms of the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid sluggish trading trend on the local currency market on Wednesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its last Saturday closing of Rs 102.95 and Rs 103.20 on buying and selling side, respectively. The dollar did not observe any change in its worth, as opening rated continued to prevail till close of trading, the dealers said.
However, the rupee remained under pressure and was declined against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 164.75 and Rs 165.00 on buying and selling counter compared with previous closing of Rs 164.60 and Rs 164.85, respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday. The dollar opened at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling).
