A sharp recovery was seen in the value of rupee versus the dollar on the money market on Tuesday, dealers said. The rupee managed to gain 45-paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.75 and Rs 101.78 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also picked up 10-paisa against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.90 and Rs 102.10 respectively, they said.
The rupee inched up by five-paisa in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 127.75 and Rs 128.00, they said. In the second Asian trade, the dollar held its own, as investors waited to see if Japan’s leader would call a snap election after the country unexpectedly slipped into recession and European Central Bank officials raised the prospects of further stimulus steps. The dollar was steady on the day at 116.63 yen, within sight of its seven-year peak of 117.06 yen touched on the EBS trading platform on Monday after Japan’s downbeat gross domestic product data.
The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.74, the US currency was trading versus the Malaysian ringgit at 3.3540 and the Chinese yuan at 6.1213 in terms of Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee recovered some of its earlier loss and was improved by 25-paisa in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Tuesday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading on a depressed note and remained under selling pressure. At close, the dollar was ended lower at Rs 102.10 and Rs 102.35 on buying and selling side against Rs 102.35 and Rs 102.60 of Monday, respectively.
Likewise, the rupee also showed strength and was appreciated against the pound sterling. The pound’s buying and selling rates were declined form overnight closing of Rs 160.55 and Rs 160.80 to Rs 159.50 and Rs 159.75, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 103 (buying) and Rs 103.10 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 164 (buying) and Rs 164.10 (selling).
