ISLAMABAD: Members of Christian community have started setting up decorated coniferous trees at their residences to welcome the arrival of Santa Claus on the festival of Christmas.
The Christmas tree is a major part of Christmas celebrations, which gives the occasion a festive look.
The tree is usually decked with ornaments including baubles, small gold or silver bells, stars of different shapes and sizes, pine cones, apples, candies, tinsel, and balloons made of glass, metal, wood and ceramic. An angel and star is often placed at the top of the tree representing the host of angels.
Like other parts of the country, the Christians living in the Federal Capital have set up Christmas trees at their homes and different areas, including Blue Area.
The earliest accounts of decorating an evergreen tree at Christmas
were recorded in Livonia (roughly modern territory of Estonia and Latvia) in 15th Century.
Talking to APP, a decoration seller said the people mostly used colourful candles and electric lights (fairy lights) to decorate small sized trees, which were easily available.
Christmas also generates economic activity for traders as majority of the Christians decorate their houses to celebrate the event, he added.
