ISLAMABAD: Professional beggars are troubling the patients and their attendants in the premises of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
The beggars are seen working in small groups to collect alms inside the hospital lawns where attendants usually wait for their patients.
Azmat Shah, an attendant said that a large number of beggars approached him just in one hour, adding that steps may be taken to discourage this menace from society, as according to Islamic teachings, it is not a good practice.
Muhammad Ali another attendant said no doubt that the district government had launched a number of drives to check the beggary but it still remains unchecked in commercial, residential areas and even in hospitals.
Noshaba, a female patient said that mostly women and children are seen begging in the premises of PIMS hospital. She said that a large number of men, women and children beg regularly in the premises of hospitals and even they are trying to enter hospital wards.
The attendants and patients at hospital said that the concerned authorities should give a serious attention to this issue and launch a massive drive against the professional beggars with the help of philanthropists and other social organizations.
