Robin Van Persie attacking Wayne Rooney’s deep free-kick for the decisive goal has lead Manchester United to acquire third position in the Barclays Premier League and offered his team a victory over Southampton at St. Mary’s.
With last night’s win over the Saints, Manchester United report their 5th consecutive win in the league under Louis Van Gaal. Robin Van Persie with three shots on target and scoring two decisive goals were enough to sink the Saints. The flow of the game changed after a tactical substitution made by United’s manager when he brought on Ander Herrera replacing McNair, moving Micheal Carrick to a defensive position. After this hard-earned match and important three points away from home, Manchester United hope to remain in the top 4 for the rest of the season.
What caused Southampton to lose … Firstly, Southampton skipper tried to play ball back to goalkeeper Fraser Froster which was risky and Van Persie successfully gained control over the anticipation and defeated Southampton by snatching the miss-passed ball and scoring his first of the match. Secondly, Shane Long (forward player) who is suffering from an extended muscle injury threatened the performance of their team.
Southampton got various chances to hit back but went passed David De Gea just once. Pelle’s equalizing goal brought pressure back at United but was not enough in the end to snatch points at the end of the game. Final score (SOUTHAMPTON 1-2 MANCHESTER UNITED).
