KARACHI: Karachi divisional and district administration in the ongoing campaign against profiteers in the metropolis fined 31 shopkeepers of Rs.69,000, said Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui on Tuesday.
Sharing detail of the exercise during past 24 hours, with the media, he said those fined included five milk sellers, two fruit sellers, five grocers, 15 chicken sellers and four green grocers.
Areas covered during the campaign, were said to include Liaqutabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Murad memon, Model Colony, Shah Faisal, Saddar, Aram Bagh, Civil Lines,, Garden, Harbour, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar e Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi, Shah Faisal besides other areas of districts south, central, west east, Malir and Korangi respectively.
The Commissioner of Karachi claimed that the campaign against profiteers, adulterators and hoarders in the metropolis for past many months has significantly helped in protecting the consumers’ rights.
He said shopkeepers and retailers will have to strictly comply with the official price list issued to them by the administration on daily basis, whereas no shortage of edible items will be allowed under any condition.
Equal attention, he added was being paid to ensure that people may be necessarily provided with quality goods, particularly in context of food items.
