The rupee moved both ways against the dollar on the local currency market on Friday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee halted decline in terms of the dollar, rising by three-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 100.75 and Rs 100.76 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, fell by 15-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying at Rs 101.20 and it also shed 10-paisa for selling at Rs 101.40, they said. The rupee gained 75-paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 117.25 and Rs 117.50 respectively, they said.
In the final Asian trade, the dollar edged up in Asian trade on Thursday, regaining some ground lost overnight after a surprisingly big fall in US retail sales. The greenback added about 0.2 percent to 117.59 yen, after skidding as low as 116.07 yen on Wednesday, a level last seen on Dec 16.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 61.71, the greenback was available at 3.5640 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.1896 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained weak and was marginally declined by five-paisa against the greenback on the local currency market on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar commenced trading at its day earlier closing of Rs 101.20 and Rs 101.45 as its buying and selling rate, respectively. As a result of increase in demand, the dollar was moved up and closed at Rs 101.25 and Rs 101.50 on buying and selling side, respectively.
However, the rupee staged recovery and regained some of its earlier loss against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 153.00 and Rs 153.25 compared with Thursday closing of Rs 153.25 and Rs 153.50, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday. The dollar opened at Rs 101.30 (buying) and Rs 101.40 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.30 (buying) and Rs 101.40 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 159 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 159 (selling).
