LAHORE: The Election Tribunal comprising Justice (retd) Kazim Ali Malik Saturday summoned Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Feb 7 to record his statement regarding alleged rigging in NA-122.
During the proceedings, Ayaz Sadiq’s counsel Barrister Asjad Saeed gave up witnesses who were to be produced before the tribunal on behalf of the respondent.
The tribunal disposed of an application filed by petitioner’s counsel Anees Ali Hashmi for summoning Deputy Registrar (General) Lahore High Court, DAO LHC Bar Association Muhammad Ali Bhatti/Oath Commissioner Islamabad, Secretary Punjab Bar Counsel and SHO Police Station Islampura Lahore for allegedly submitting fake affidavits.
It decided that there was no need to examine the witnesses.
Another application of petitioner PTI chief Imran Khan requesting for an appropriate action against District and Sessions Judge (retired) Ghulam Hussain Awan, head of the commission for recounting votes of NA-122, was also disposed of.
Imran Khan also requested for reinspection of the votes.
Imran Khan’s counsel also alleged that Ghulam Hussain spoke to the media before submission of the report to the electional tribunal.
The tribunal observed said that there was no legal or moral justification for the commission to comment before the media about the inspection report.
However, it observed that the inspection report was a legal piece of evidence.
it was the prerogative of election tribunal to examine, scrutinize and analyze to the report for resolving the election dispute on facts and according to law, it observed.
The judge observed that on conclusion of trial proceedings, the tribunal would thoroughly go through the inspection report and other evidence in order to arrive at truth.
The tribunal disposed of the application against the commission and the inspection report.
