LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday awarded death sentence on 21 counts and life imprisonment to four terrorists belonging to Al-Qaeda involved in a jail wardens hostel attack case.
The court also ordered the convicts Karamat, Zulifqar, Afzaal and Abdul Hafeez to pay a fine of Rs 10.8 million each.
The ATC-I judge announced the verdict after hearing arguments of parties and examining available evidence here at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
According to the prosecution, the terrorists attacked the Jail Wardens Hostel in Rasool Park here on July 12 in 2012 wherein 10 under-training Jail Wardens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost their lives while 7 others were injured.
Later, the security agencies started search operation for the arrest of terrorists and finally captured them from Minar-e-Pakistan area with heavy quantity of ammunition in 2013.
The terrorists were tried under PPC 302, 324, 353, 145, 148, 120-A, 7-ATA and 3/4 ESA in ATC Lahore.
The court convicted the terrorists, in another case registered under explosives Act.
They were awarded life imprisonment on two counts and 14 years rigorous Imprisonment in the case.
Deputy Prosecutor General Rai Asif Mahmood represented the state in case and got convicted the terrorists.
