ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Mariyam Aurangzeb Thursday expressed confidence that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government would complete the crackdown launched against illegal Afghan Imams (prayer leaders) within seven days under the National Action Plan (NAP).
Talking to PTV, she said a full-fledged operation was underway in KP against Afghanis after the local police confirmed their links with terrorists. “The action against such elements was part of NAP.”
There were reports that these Imams were leading prayers at Mosques without valid documents and some of them were providing sanctuaries to terrorists.
Besides, she said registration of unregistered Afghan nationals living in Pakistan was in full swing across the country for their repatriation.
So far, Mariyam said, around 4,00,000 Afghan nationals have been registered, adding that provinces were submitting their reports to the Prime Minister in this regard on weekly basis.
The Parliamentary Secretary said the Ministry of Interior was coordinating with all provinces to achieve the task at the earliest.
