ISLAMABAD: Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has taken number of steps to ensure security of educational institutions working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE).
Listing some initiatives, an official of the ministry informed that the ministry has taken several measures so far including uplifting boundary walls of some educational institutions, installing concertina wires around the boundary walls of the institution campuses and installing CCTV cameras in 52 institutions to monitor the security situation.
The ministry has allocated an amount of Rs.180 million in the current financial year to take sufficient security measures in the educational institutions.
Private security guards were hired by ICT Colleges for providing security in the aftermath of Peshawar incident.
FDE has developed online Security Inspection Monitoring System (SIMS) and Daily Visitor Invigilation System (DVIS).
While emergency telephone numbers are displayed at prominent places in the institutions, the official told.
Emergency exit plans are also implemented the educational institutions.
The extinguishers are installed in the institutions.
The list of teaching and non-teaching staff is being sent to IG Police Islamabad for their security clearance.
The official informed that the mobile emergency alert system has been installed on android phones in each educational institution, which sends a distress signal to police along with location of the school or college by a simple push of a button.
Focal persons have been identified in each of the 422 educational Institutions and their names as well as names of heads of institutions, their mobile phone number have been communicated to police.
More than a dozen security briefings have been arranged for all Principals and Security Focal points with the help of ICT police covering all educational institutions in ICT.
Regular inspections are being held to check security measures in all colleges and schools in ICT by the concerned Directors or Area Education Officers of FDE.
The minister for CADD chairs a weekly security meeting to overview security related matters of all educational institutions.
