On the back of slight increase in demand, the dollar posted fresh gains against the rupee on the local currency market on Thursday, dealers said. The rupee dropped 10-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.67 and Rs 101.69 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee adopted the same path on the open market, depicting same loss in terms of the greenback for buying and selling at Rs 101.60 and Rs 101.80 respectively, they said.
Incidentally, the local currency lost 50-paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 115.50 and Rs 115.75 respectively, they said. In the fourth Asian trade, the dollar fell against the yen and euro on Thursday, paring gains after minutes of January’s Federal Reserve policy meeting showed officials were concerned about hiking interest rates too soon.
The greenback shed 0.2 percent to 118.58 yen after coming down from a peak of 119.41 overnight. The dollar index added to losses and was down 0.3 percent at 93.940 but managed to keep above this week’s trough of 93.801. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee remained under pressure and lost 10-paisa in relation to the greenback on the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its previous closing of Rs 101.55 and Rs 101.80 as its buying and selling rates, respectively. Because of increase in dollar’s demand, its rate was ended higher at Rs 101.65 and Rs 101.90 on buying and selling side, respectively.
However, the national currency showed stability and remained unchanged on buying side while it was appreciated on selling side against the pound sterling. The pound was traded at Rs 155.00 and Rs 155.50 on buying and selling counter compared with overnight closing of Rs 155.00 and Rs 155.70, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained strength against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling) against same overnight rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 100.75 (buying) and Rs 101 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 152 (buying) and Rs 153 (selling).
