LAHORE: The police claimed to have arrested 199 members of 83 gangs and 407 cases were traced against them besides recovery of stolen property worth Rs 14.1 million from their possesion in February last.
The police also arrested 776 proclaimed offenders, 1142 court absconders included A&B categories, said police spokesman on Wednesday.
As many as 464 cases were registered against 464 accused for possessing illegal weapons and police also recovered 19-Kalashnikovs, 39-rifles, 30-guns, 409-revolvers & pistols, 1 carbine and 16748 bullets from their possession.
During the action against drug dealers, 538 cases were registered in this regared and 541 criminals were arrested and 49.379 kilogram heroin, 177.438 kg hashish and 4041 bottles of liquor were recovered from them.
Moreover, 193 cases were registered against gamblers and 744 accused were arrested and also recovered stake amount of more than Rs 1.2 million. In the same period during the special crackdown, 239 cases were registered against 244 culprits on the violation of law, the spokesman added.
DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf directed Police officers for the implementation of National Action Plan and to utilize their full energies to curb the crime in the city and arrest the criminals involved in different unlawful activities.
