Sarfaraz Ahmed has answered all the questions which have been raised by the management, coach, captain, and by the selectors that the condition of Australian and New Zealand’s bouncy pitches are not suitable for him, but Sarfaraz has showed his talent and proved that he can bat not only at number 7, but he can also open the innings without having fear.
On the 7th March 2015, in a big game of Pakistan vs South Africa, where South Africa was favorite to win the clash, Sarfaraz Ahmed has showed his talent by scoring 49 runs off 49 balls with 100.00 strike rate and took 6 catches behind the stumps for the victory of Pakistan.
The debutant Sarfaraz Ahmed in CWC was the long debate in Pakistan Media before he started playing World Cup campaign. Many of former Cricketers on TV were criticizing the PCB management on the dis-selection of Sarfaraz Ahmed as an opener in the World Cup campaign since Hafeez was out of the tournament.
And finally Sarfaraz got the chance to prove himself in an important match against the world top bowling side South Africa. Pakistan ran out of reasons for not playing him in the XI, Sarfraz walked out to open the innings and stood outside the crease facing the first ball of the match from Dale Steyn, a record six catches later including that of a rampaging AB de Villiers.
Because of his brilliant performance in PakVsSA, Sarfraz has been awarded as ‘Man Of The Match’.
Sarfaraz shared his thoughts after the win, saying that “it was like a debut game for him”.
Coach Waqar Younis said:
“I never doubted his abilities. We all knew how good he is, before hinting why he may have missed out till now.” He is a makeshift opener, but he did a superb job today.
