PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said the country’s economy was making great progress due to result-oriented policies of the government which were also acknowledged by the international monetary organizations.
Addressing a meeting of the PML-N leaders, workers and parliamentarians here at Governor House, the Prime Minister said when PML-N came into power, revival of economy, energy crisis and terrorism were big challenges and his government took concrete steps to address these issues.
Due to his Govt’s result-oriented policies, the Prime Minister said economy was now on right track and economic indicators were showing positive signs.
Sharif said international economic organizations like IMF, Moodys and Bloomberg have highly appreciated the measures and reforms taken by his Government for the revival of economy.
The Govt’s focus was energy sector to generate and provide inexpensive electricity to industries and consumers, he added.
For rapid economic development, the Prime Minister said elimination of terrorism and ending of energy crisis was a must, adding a country can not progress when there was scarcity of the energy.
To eliminate the scourge of terrorism, the Prime Minister said Operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched to establish Govt’s writ and durable peace. Hideouts of terrorists have been dismantled and their network and command system was destroyed, he added.
Sharif eulogized the sacrifices rendered by the security forces in establishment of Govt’s writ in North Waziristan Agency.
The Prime Minister said Karachi operation was launched after consultation with all the political and religious parties and peace would soon return to the Port City of Karachi.
The Prime Minister said relations with Afghanistan have immensely improved and leadership of both the countries were on same page to continue efforts for the elimination of terrorism. Both the countries agreed not to allow their soil to be used against each other, he added.
The world, he said, has also recognized Pakistan’s efforts for global and regional peace.
Governor Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Sardar Mehtab Adhmed Khan, Federal Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yusaf and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Murtaza Javeed Abbasi were also present on the occasion.
Advisor to the Prime Minister, Engr Amir Muqam, Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Dr Asif Kirmani also attended the meeting.
Prominent among those were Senators Lt Gen Retd Salahuddin Tirmazi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sardar Javed Abbasi, MNAs Capt Retd Muhammad Safadar, Dr Abad Khan, Sobia Khan, Umar Ayub, Tahira Bukhari, PMLN high ranking leaders and office bearers including Pir Sabir Shah (Provincial President), Rehmat Salam Khattak (General Secretary), Khwaja Muhammad Khan Hoti, Arsala Hoti, Shaheen Habibullah and MPAs Aurangzaib Nalota, Faisal Zaman, Akbar Hayat Khan, Salah Muhammad and Fedrak Azeem.
Matters related to evolving a comprehensive strategy for upcoming local bodies elections in Khyber Pakthunkhwa besides further strengthening the party came under discussion. The PML-N lawmakers and office bearers presented different suggestions pertaining to the upcoming local bodies elections in Khyber Pakthunkhwa on this occasion.
