KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali has directed the police officials to establish Human Rights Cells in all districts of the province, so that action can be taken against human rights violation and police abuse.
He issued these instructions while reviewing a report by Karachi Police, said a handout issued here on Sunday.
It said a police report apprised the IGP that the Zonal DIGs and District SSPs have been issued letters to establish Human Rights Desks.
The report said various stake-holders and representatives of HR organisations were also formally consulted after which it was decided to set up Human Rights Desk in every district of Karachi.
Initiation of legal measures will be ensured upon violation of Human Rights, exploitation of women, domestic violence, abuse of children, and harassment by police.
The report further informed that a lady DSP or an Inspector will be assigned to HR desks for receiving complaints regarding women and children’s rights and a DSP rank officer for receiving complaints and taking action against the police.
