ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday called for working in unison to collectively address multi-dimensional security challenges confronting the Islamic countries.
He was addressing the `6th Think Tanks Forum of the Islamic Countries’, held under the joint auspices of Pakistan-China Institute (PCI), the Turkish Asian Centre for Strategic Studies( TASAM), the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and Pakistan’s Senate Committee on Defence.
The President stressed the need for concerted efforts to rebuild the image of a peaceful, developed and forward looking Ummah not only to counter the false characterization of ourselves and our faith, but also to remind our own people of where we have come from and the values for which we stand.
He said that today Muslim Ummah was facing numerous traditional and non-traditional security challenges like terrorism, religious extremism, sectarianism and cyber insecurity.
He said these challenges not only have the capacity to destabilize entire regions, but can also deface the true image of the Ummah. Hatred, violence and bigotry of extremists and terrorists must not be allowed to tarnish the nobility of Islam, the President emphasized.
He called for dialogue among Muslims to promote unity for better utilization of resources adding that stature of Muslims should be commensurate with its resources and strengths.
The President stated that the 57 OIC brotherly countries are geo-strategically located at some of the most significant and politically sensitive places on earth. Our geographic location, our resources, and our unity of faith that tie us all together are our strengths, he added.
The President said that today the Ummah needed intellectual inputs and vision from such a Forum of distinguished academia, media personnel, policy makers, and civil servants coming from more than 50 countries.
He said such forums have an important role in analyzing where we are; brain storming where we want to be; and strategizing how we may reach there.
The President mentioned that Pakistan has steadfastly maintained its support for the Muslim causes of Palestine, Turkish Republic of Northern-Cyprus and Bosnia’s right to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The President thanked OIC countries for their continued support for a just and durable solution of the Kashmir issue.
The President said that Pakistan has intensified its counter terrorism efforts elaborating that operation Zarb-e-Azb would continue till elimination of the scourge of terrorism from Pakistani soil.
He also lauded the valor and courage of security forces fighting against terrorists.
Referring to National Action Plan (NAP), the President said that NAP was chalked out with the consensus of all political parties to eradicate the twin evils of terrorism and extremism.
