FAISALABAD: A minor girl was drowned in an uncovered gutter in Raza Abad police station limits here on Wednesday.
The Managing Director (MD) Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) suspended three officers on charge of negligence and delinquency in providing lid to the open manhole.
According to the police, 2.5-year-old Noor Fatima daughter of Muhammad Arshad resident of Street No.6 Jameel Park was playing in the street when she all of sudden fell down in an uncovered gutter of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and drowned.
Following the incident, the relatives of the girl including her parents and other area people staged a demonstration against the WASA officials and officers and held them responsible for the death of the minor girl.
Taking serious notice of the incident, Managing Director WASA has immediately suspended 3 WASA officers including Assistant Director Muhammad Boota, Sub Engineer Muhammad Owais and Overseer Maqbool Ahmad on charge of their negligence and delinquency.
The MD WASA also announced to provide financial compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased girl and formed an inquiry committee under the supervision of Director I&C Adnan Nisar to probe into the matter.
The MD WASA told that the suspended officers would be removed from their services if they were proved guilty in the inquiry report, a spokesman of the WASA told here on Wednesday.
