HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Range Police have prepared a security plan for the three-day polio eradication drive which started in the nine districts falling in the jurisdiction of the police range on Monday.
According to a spokesman of the DIG office, DIG Hyderabad Dr.Sanaullah Abbassi called a meeting of the SSPs of each of the nine districts at his office to review the arrangements.
He directed them to categorise areas based on threat perceptions in four separate levels, ensure security of polio teams, transit points and their materials and increase police patrolling during the campaign hours.
The DIG said Hyderabad region was considered to be at high risk due to detection of polio cases from 2010 to 2012, presence of polio virus in the drains and an average refusal cases of 1,200 to 1,500 during every campaign.
A total of 559 policemen have been deployed at 316 transit points while 956 personnel will provide security to the 498 mobile teams, he added.
As many as 2,039,088 children under 5 years age will be immunised during the drive.
