ISLAMABAD: The Upper House of the Parliament on Monday passed unanimously the Privatisation Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2013 to amend the Privatisation Commission Ordinance, 2000.
Syed Sughra Imam of Pakistan Peoples Party moved the bill in the House.
While not opposing the bill, State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad said that it was the government’s policy to ensure transparency in the privatization process.
The Statement of Objects and Reasons of the bills says, the privatization process in Pakistan must be entirely transparent, judicious and fair. In order to guarantee transparency, it is essential that all officials involved or overseeing the privatization process must be free from any personal interest, prejudice or conflict of interest, otherwise the entire privatisation will become an exercise in controversy.
