KARACHI: Chairman of Pakistan Cricket board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan has finally appointed One Day International (ODI) captain Azhar Ali after the end of Pakistan Cricket World Cup 2015 campaign which was led by Misbah-ul-Haq. The decision was made just before the tour of Bangladesh where Pakistan will be playing International Cricket in the near future, yet the schedule has not been announced.
Azhar Ali has only played 14 ODI’s and last appeared in January 2013 despite having an average of 41.99.
Ali had worked hard in the domestic cricket before the starting of CWC2015 campaign but unfortunately he has not made his place in Pakistan Cricket World Cup 2015 squad. He has also not been the part of National side for two years. The 30-year old Azhar Ali is a regular Test player for Pakistan and consistently playing at no.3 position since his debut VS Australia at Lord’s, July 2010.
His deputy will be Sarfraz Ahmed, the wicketkeeper batsman, who is also expected to become vice-captain to Shahid Afridi in T20.
The selection of Azhar as ODI captain has raised some questions that if PCB has planned to make Azhar Captain after WC2015, then why did they pick Hafeez as an experiment in T20s and ODIs.
Where is Professor? Yes I am talking about the professor Mohammad Hafeez who was the T20 captain of Pakistan side and somehow the vice-captain to Misbah in ODI’s. He is the most experienced player than Azhar Ali and has played 155 ODI matches, far than Ali’s 14 ODI games. Why the PCB management always took the decision against the past experiment? Hafeez would be the best choice for Pakistan Cricket team Skipper despite Azhar Ali. Azhar should be the vice captain to Hafeez and needs at least 2 years for his grooming.
