SUKKUR: The International Women Day was celebrated at Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur on Monday.
Chairman of the Political Science department, SALU, Dr Amir Ali Chandio presided over the event while Director, Archaeology & Anthropology Museum, Dr Mastoor Bukhari was the chief guest and Professor Dr Samina was the guest of honor.
Addressing the participants, Dr Amir Chandio said the educating both men and women and providing economic opportunities to women at their doorstep are key initiatives to empower women adding that girls should not be denied of opportunities.
“Empowerment of women benefits the family and humanity at large”, said Chandio.
Professor Dr Mastoor Fatima Bukhari highlighted the importance of women in society and said that despite facing difficulties and challenges, women have proved their talent in literature, art and other fields. She emphasized the need for encouraging women in various fields to help them grow.
Professor Dr Samina said that women must get united to fight and should raise awareness against gender discrimination.
On the occasion, Professor Shahida Amir Chandio, Aisha Chandio, Sahib Khatoon Hina and others also spoke.
