HYDERABAD: Agriculture Extension Department Hyderabad and growers’ organisation will hold awareness campaigns among growers and farmers to prevent loss to the crops due to expected rain falls in the province.
The decision was taken in a meeting held at Hyderabad Office of Agriculture Extension on Friday which was presided by Director General (DG) Agriculture Extension Department Hyderabad, Hidayatullah Chhajro.
On the occasion, DG Hidayatullah Chhajro urged officials and growers to take initiatives such as launch of campaigns to avert any loss to the crops due to rains.
“The cleanliness and repair work on water-courses should be ensured on priority as the additional rain water could be drained out easily from crop lands,” he said adding if such measure were ensured, the crops would be saved from any damage.
He said that there is a need of producing seed which could be ripened in a short span of time.
During the meeting, the growers demanded that the varieties of seeds should be reviewed to ban the sub-standard seeds and it would help them to maintain standard seeds’ varieties such as Irri-6 to get benefits from international markets.
The meeting also urged the growers to focus on standard varieties of seeds to avert any damage to crops due to diseases unlike last year.
President Sindh Abadgar Board, Abdul Majeed Nizamani, General Secretary Chamber of Agriculture Sindh, Nabi Bux Sathio, Director General Agriculture Research Sindh Dr. Atta Hussain Soomro, Director Sindh Seed Corporation, Imdad Ali Tunio and others were present on the occasion.
