KARACHI: Pakistan-born bowler Fawad Ahmed played ten first class matches in Pakistan. Fawad Ahmed arrived in Australia from Pakistan five years ago as an asylum seeker, fearing for life at home.
The 33 year old Fawad is now an Australian citizen and playing domestic cricket in Australia and with his extra ordinary efforts trying to make a place in the Aussie’s Test XI.
Pakistani-Australian Fawad Ahmed has played 3 One Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he took overall 3 wickets and conceded 145 runs. Ahmed also played two t20 games for Australia.
After his debut against the Scotland at Edinburgh, he was not consistent contender for Australia as he performed in domestic Cricket, Australian Cricket board was considering him to fill in the yawning space of Shane Warne but later on, he was not able to fulfill Warne spin.
Fawad Ahmed has last represented Australia in Sep 2013 against the England at Southampton and played no Test match for Australia. This is the first time that Australian Cricket board has made an eye on him and considered Fawad to give a Test coronation in the tour of West Indies just before the Ashes Series with England.
With 48 wickets during Victoria’s Sheffield Shield season Australia, he was easily the competition’s leading bowler. It would be no surprise if he was to push Nathan Lyon for the main spinner’s role and it is also possible that Australia may pick both of them, depending on the kind of pitches that England prepare.
