ISLAMABAD: Veteran politician and former president of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said Imran Khan is habitual of taking U-turns so people have stopped taking his statements seriously.
Talking to a private television channel, he said there is an “element” in the country which changes direction of national politics.
This element hatched a conspiracy and there were four to five people who planned the sit-in, he added.
When Hashmi was asked about his decisions as president of a political party, he said he was PTI president but he never asked for the post and was given the office.
He said he took lot of decisions in his life but some of his decisions and sacrifices changed the politics of country.
Javed Hashmi said his association was with Pakistan, with the Constitution and the people.
There were some people from some influential quarters in connivance with some outsiders who planned to make the whole country hostage to save their jobs, he said. Coordinator of all these people, he alleged, was General Pasha alongwith another person who recently lost elections from Sheikhupura,” he added.
He said these people made a nexus and misled the people Imran Khan and Tahirul Qadri.
Javed Hashmi said he tried to make everybody understand the gravity of the situation and told Imran Khan who was insisting on the resignation of the prime minister and finally he had to return without achieving his objective to this effect.
When Hashmi was asked whether he knew about the support of General Pasha to PTI, he said at the time of his joining the party, Imran Khan came to him and said that he will drive the vehicle himself.
Imran said that he was driving the vehicle for the first time in six years and while driving he talked about General Pasha that, he said, sounded strange to him. He narrated this incident ten times to the core committee of PTI, he added.
When asked whether he was forced to join PTI, Javed Hashmi said, “I thought I will take the party out of this quagmire.
I told this story to the core committee so many times but failed to make them realize the gravity of the situation.
“Soon I realised my mistake and decided to rectify it.”
“Then I made the speech that I am a rebel and we have to change ourselves and if it will not happen then Javed Hashmi will rebel again.”
Referring to his speech in Karachi on December 25, he said he told Imran Khan that a rebel has joined him.
He said he always told Imran Khan that he should not move ahead on crutches as youth have accepted him as their leader and he should lead all on his own.
He said he supported Imran Khan on the issue of drone attacks even before joining PTI while he should not have done it under the party discipline.
Javed Hashmi said some people in PMLN said that Imran was sent by General Pasha but he thought that it was mere allegation.
He said Imran Khan in their last conversation, asked him whether he accepted him as his leader.
“I never told this Imran Khan before but just to satisfy his ego I told him that he is my leader.”
He said he told Imran Khan that an attack on Prime Minister House, Parliament House and Pakistan Television would be dishonesty with youth.
“I told Imran Khan that he along with Jehangir Tareen, Asad Umer, Arif Alvi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi decided not to move ahead towards Parliament. Khan said alright I agree with you we will not move ahead.”
He said he reminded Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jehangir Tareen about their commitment and asked them to convince Imran Khan not to move towards government buildings.
To a question, he without naming the authority said Imran Khan decided to move towards Parliament after he was told by Saifullah Niazi that orders have come to move towards Parliament.
General Pasha along with four to five persons decided to move towards Parliament, he said adding Tahirul Qadri made the commitment that he will go into the National Assembly and PTI committed to gather 250,000 people but it could not fulfil its pledge.
Javed Hashmi said in a single night the largest gathering was around 36,300 people.
Hashmi said Imran Khan was in contact with “behind the scene forces” through Saifullah Niazi and Jehangir Tareen.
He said he was given unannounced support by political parties during his bye elections.
“I have their sympathies but I fought alone as I did not have workers. When I was in PTI I got 83,000 votes. Imran Khan held a public meeting for Amir Dogar and PTI could only get 25,000 votes,” he added.
