The rupee managed to resist sharp fall against the dollar on the local currency market on Thursday, dealers said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee moved cautiously versus the dollar, gaining two-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.65 and Rs 101.67 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee, however, surrendered its overnight gains against the dollar, losing five-paisa for buying and selling at Rs 102.40 and Rs 102.60, they said.
The rupee recovered Rs 125 in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 109.50 and Rs 109.75, they said
In the fourth Asian trade, the dollar struggled to gain traction against a basket of major currencies, with the dollar index last trading at 98.316, having set a one-week low of 97.897 earlier on Thursday.
Not helping dollar bulls, data on Wednesday showed US industrial production recorded its biggest drop in more than 2-1/2 years in March.
The dollar had come under broad pressure earlier on Thursday on the back of a bounce in the euro, which rose to as high as $1.0748.
The dollar was available at Rs 62.37 against the Indian rupee, the greenback was at 3.6725 versus the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was trading in relation to the Chinese yuan at 6.1950.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to maintain her ride and lost 10-paisa against the US dollar on the local currency market on Thursday.
The dollar opened healthily while rising following fresh buying and ended higher at Rs 102.50 and Rs 102.75 on buying and selling side against Rs 102.40 and Rs 102.65 of Wednesday. The rupee remained depressed and depreciated against the pound sterling whose s buying and selling rates improved from the overnight closing of Rs 150.50 and Rs 150.75 to Rs 151.25 and Rs 151.50.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
