BAHAWALPUR: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Tuesday inaugurated Pakistan’s first ever 100MW solar powered plant in the Quaid e Azam Solar Power Park.
The Rs.15 billion solar plants set up on trial basis and spread over 500 acres is completed in about 11 months with the Chinese assistance. It would add 100 MW to the national grid. The Punjab government has borne the expenses of setting up the power plant.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also inaugurated a commemorative stamp issued by the Pakistan Post.
Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Acting Governor Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Chinese ambassador Sun Weidong were also present on the occasion besides a number of Federal and provincial ministers.
Earlier, the Prime Minister was warmly welcomed upon his arrival as dancers presented beautiful traditional dance of the area while two renowned folk singers of the area also entertained the gathering with their melodious voices.
