General Raheel Sharif, the CoAS, visited HQ Directorate General of ISI, Islamabad, yesterday. Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, the DG ISI, briefed the CoAS about internal and external security situation of the country and counter-terrorism operations. When briefed on pre-empting a number of terrorist acts and successful intelligence-based operations, CoAS appreciated ISI’s role in preventing numerous terrorist acts.
The CoAS said that most of the achievements and successes of intelligence agencies go unnoticed but their accomplishments for the defence of the country are phenomenal which deserve due recognition and acknowledgement The CoAS emphasised the need for more proactive and co-ordinated role of intelligence agencies for an effective counter-terrorism campaign and to counter hostile agencies’ moves aimed at destabilising Pakistan. The CoAS also emphasised the need to further co-ordinate and synergise a combined civil-military intelligence effort at national level by providing all agencies the requisite support and ever-developing modern intelligence techniques.
