The rupee moved up against the dollar on the money market on Thursday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee gained three-paisa in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 101.72 and Rs 101.75 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee also rose by five-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 102.45 and Rs 102.65, they said. The rupee fell sharply in terms of the euro, dropping Rs 2.20 for buying and selling at Rs 114.20 and Rs 114.45, they said.
In the fourth Asian trade, the yen pushed higher after the Bank of Japan kept policy unchanged and held off from expanding its monetary stimulus, disappointing some market players who had been looking for further easing. The dollar slipped to as low as 118.54 yen after the BOJ decision and last traded near 118.61 yen, down 0.4 percent on the day.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 63.30, the greenback was at 3.540 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.195 in relation to the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee has kept on rising for the second consecutive day, gaining 10 paisas against the dollar on the local currency market.
The dollar resumed trading sluggishly and remained under selling pressure, ending further lower at Rs 102.50 and Rs 102.75 on buying and selling side against Rs 102.60 and Rs 102.85 of Wednesday.
The rupee continued to slide for another day and depreciated its worth against the pound sterling, whose buying and selling rates further improved from the overnight closing of Rs 156.75 and Rs 157.00 to Rs 157.25 and Rs 157.50.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 101.75 (buying) and Rs 101.85 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 155 (buying) and Rs 155.50 (selling).
