DUBAI: The Zimbabawe cricket team is set to reach Lahore at 2am tonight, Aaj News reported.
The team has already arrived in Dubai from Harare, the capital of Zimababwe.
Finally a sigh of relief for the cricket fans of Pakistan, as the tour that lingered on is now about to finally happened.
Zimbabwe was all ready to visit Pakistan for two T20’s and three one day internationals, until a tragedy hit Pakistan. On Wednesday a bus full of passengers from the Ismaili sect was attacked. Forty five people died after unknown gunmen shot at them.
This however, raised a big question mark over the credibility of security that would have been provided to the foreign team.
Even the International Cricket Council, excused from sending ICC umpires for the event.
After days of drama the Zimbabwe team finally agreed to visit Pakistan.
Pakistan appointed a local umpire who survived a 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan team for the home series against Zimbabwe.
Ahsan Raza, 40, will officiate during the series featuring two t20’s and three ODI’s against Zimbabwe, who are set to become the first Test playing nation to tour Pakistan after six years.
Aleem Dar, Shozab Raza, Ahmed Shahab and Khalid Mahmood would also perform umpiring duties along with Zimbabwean umpire Russell Tiffin
Two t20’s will be played on May 22 and May 24 respectively, while the ODI’s will took place on May 26, 29 and 31 at Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore.
For this series Pakistani Cricket Board and Officials from government have finalized the preparation around 6,000 security officers will perform their duties along with security dogs.
