WEB DESK: An old saying says that this is a “Dog Eat Dog” world. But the dog eating festival in China has given this idiom a whole new meaning, it’s a “Men Eat Dog” world now.
Around 10,000 dogs are cooked in different ways in Yulin, a city of Guangxi province in southern China as part of a dog eating festival. Large numbers of animal lovers have expressed there disgust at this odd celebration on social media.
This year reaction against this taboo practice has gone global. United Kingdom, United States and Australia are among those who have been using Twitter to show their anger. They have been using hashtag #StopYulin2015 to stop this festival.
Duo Duo, a US based animal welfare group has made the loudest cry of them all as they launched an online petition to cancel this event.
More than 200,000 people have signed the petition. The official YouTube page of the group has also launched their campaign video, which has got more than 130,000 hits.
Let’s see if this social outrage can become the reason to stop this weird tradition.
