ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday returned the missing diamond necklace, donated by the Turkish first lady, to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
An official source said that the staff officer of former Prime Minister surrendered the necklace to NADRA’s Director General (DG) logistics NADRA, Major Amir Ahmad (Retd), after Tusha Khana of cabinet division and Foreign Office refused to accept it.
“Gilani’s staff officer first went to Tusha Khana where the management asked him that under the standard operation procedure (SOP), we could not receive necklace directly, you have to deposit it with Prime Minister House or Foreign Office,” but the Foreign Office also refused to accept the necklace.
Later, the staff rushed to NADRA and the authorities there received it and gave the receipt to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Earlier, on the directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, FIA had served legal notice to the former Prime Minister regarding the issue of Turkish necklace and asked Gilani that legal action would be taken against him if he did not return the necklace within three days.
