WEB DESK: With an hour remaining till the budget is released, let us remind ourselves that we have failed our children.
Our Millennium Development Goals for the year 2015 for education remain a broken promise. Pakistan had pledged that it will ensure 100 percent primary literacy by 2015.
Our literacy rate stands at 57 percent, states the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement Survey.
Punjab has only 64 percent of net primary enrollment rate is further classified into 66 percent of Males and 63 percent of Females.
There are are 43 percent of female students enrolled in Sindh and 53 percent male students, achieving a total of 48 percent.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a total of 54 percent with 62 percent male and 46 percent female.
Balochistan disappoints the most with only 39 percent in total which is further categorized into 46 percent of male and 30 percent of females.
With these calculations one should be clear about the fact that Pakistan is still facing the problem of gender discrimination especially in the rural areas.
Fingers are crossed as the budget for 2015-16 is about to be released today, hopefully the government will increase the budget for education.
