KARACHI: The Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, has called for speeding up the cleaning of `nallahs’ in the city.
He said on Sunday that the personnel of the civic bodies have performed well and cleansed such nallahs to a large extent but much more needs to be done and that the process should be speeded up further.
Siddiqui, who is also Commissioner Karachi, called for deploying the required machinery and increasing the manpower wherever required.
He warned that there would be no compromise with those who have come up with encroachments on the nallahs and asked such persons to voluntarily vacate these premises or else the government would initiate action.
The Administrator also warned that there should be no hindrance in the cleanliness work.
On Sunday he along with Local Bodies officers visited various in the city to inspect the work being carried out.
Siddiqui said that without cleaning the nallah the problems of Karachi cannot be resolved. Therefore, it has been decided to cleanse the nallah.
He directed that the task be speeded up and the required machinery and staff be deployed for the purpose.
The Administrator said that for the first time cleansing work was carried out at night time also which brought about improvements.
He said that the municipal services have been provided with the necessary resources.
The areas visited by the Administrator included PIDC, Railway Nallah, Pachar Nllah, Machar Colony, Qayyumabad, Manzoor Colony, PECHS, Tipu Sultan, Gujjar Nallah, Orangi Nallah.
