KARACHI: The Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, has directed action against those transporters plying their vehicles from Karachi to various destinations in the province and upcountry and are indulging in overcharging.
He said on Thursday that charging excess fares than those officially determined, is a violation of law and such a trend be discouraged.
The Commissioner also called for taking stern action against those transporters indulging in overcharging.
He directed that officials of the Transport Department to visit bus stands, attend to public complaints and provide relief to the travelers on the spot.
Siddiqui said that after Eid ul Fitr a meeting would be arranged with the transport owners and unions for evolving a common strategy pertaining to transport fares and ensure that there is no violation.
He stated that the transporters on their demand have been provided with the space for the bus stand at Sohrab Goth. As such they should not park their vehicles at various places in the city to pick up passengers as this obstructs flow of traffic.
Meanwhile, the Secretary Regional Transport Authority while taking action against transporters indulging overcharging, challaned 120 large and small vehicles and recovered a fine to the tune of Rs. 264,000. Two of the vehicles were impounded while route permits of 12 others were canceled.
