KARACHI: Power breakdown caused due to fault in two units of K-Electric’s Bin Qasim power plants Tuesday night, could not be fully restored in many areas of metropolis despite passage of more than 15 hours Wednesday afternoon.
A major power breakdown at Bin Qasim plant of K-Electric, affecting half of the 1400 feeders in the metropolis last night had plunged almost 50 percent of metropolis into partial darkness.
The affected areas included Gulshan e Hadeed, Malir, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Gulshan-i-Jamal, Clifton, Shireen Jinnah Colony, Federal B Area, Baldia Town, Dalmia, Karsaz, old city areas, Saddar, Keamari, Lyari, and others.
K-Electric spokesman said the restoration work was immediately started, however, as a 220 KV transmission line of the power plant was affected hence it needed time to resume normal supply to each and every area.
Reportedly the transmission line had tripped after a major fault in the conductor.
The spokesman claiming that electricity supply has been restored in most of the affected areas said steps are being expedited to provide relief to residents of areas as F.B.Area, Lyari, certain phases of Defence Housing Authority.
In the given situation many of the citizens resorted to application of generators braving noise pollution and all risks to aggravate already deteriorating environmental conditions.
Homes installed with UPS were better off till the battery run back-up support survived the more than 12 hour breakdown.
