KARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday assured Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership that Sindh Rangers are mainly conducting an operation against criminal and terrorist elements for establishing peace in Karachi.
According to the spokesman for Ministry of Interior, Nisar held out this assurance during a meeting with an MQM delegation headed by Dr Farooq Sattar. The delegation comprised Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Barrister Muhammad Saif and Kanwar Naveed Jamil, he said.
He said that during the meeting matters related to the Karachi operation and law and order situation in the mega city came under discussion. The interior Minister further said that Rangers were carrying out an operation against criminals in accordance with the law and mandate given to them; hence the operation was not launched for the purpose to push MQM or any other political party against the wall.
“Restoration of peace in Karachi is our collective responsibility and mandatory for interest of the country,” he said.
The Interior minister said that efforts are afoot to address the legitimate reservations of any political party. However, national interest demands that all political forces should support Rangers in this operation. The MQM delegation said that they support Karachi operation, but injustice continues with MQM in the guise of operation.
