ISLAMABAD: A petition to stop local bodies election in Islamabad has been filed in the Supreme Court, Aaj News reported.
The petition was filed by PML-N member Zafar Ali Shah, arguing that legal formalities before the local government elections have not been completed.
He said that the Supreme Court was holding non-party based elections in Islamabad, whereas in cantonments and provinces where similar elections were held they were based on political parties.
It has been requested that till legal loopholes are addressed the elections be postponed till September.
Prior to this petition the Election Commission of Pakistan had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting a delay in the elections.
