KARACHI: The 54th death anniversary of Baba-e-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq was observed here on Sunday.
Quran Khawani was held at his grave and Fateha was offered for `Isal-i-Sawab’ to the departed soul.
A floral wreath was also laid on behalf of the citizens of Karachi.
On the occasion, Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, paid rich tributes to Molvi Abdul Haq for his immense services to the cause of Urdu Language.
He said that all the provinces in the country contributes their bit towards the promotion of Urdu language and for its status as the country’s national language.
The Commissioner Karachi also referred to the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and efforts of the Parliament regarding the promotion and enforcement of Urdu language and termed these as very encouraging.
He said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has also activated its Department of Urdu for the enforcement of this language.
The Commissioner said that there are many institutions in city which are working for the promotion of Urdu language. These included Karachi Arts Council, Anjuman Tarrqi-e-Urdu, Muqtadra Qaumi Zaban, Urdu Dictionary Board.
He said that on the directive of the government, the Karachi Administration is working side by side with the Anjuman Tarrqi-e-Urdu.
Dr. Fatima Hassan of the Anjuman Tarrqi-e-Urdu on the occasion read out a message from President Mamnoon Hussain, says a KMC statement.
Senator Taj Haider, Dr. Fatima Hassan and Raju Jameel also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Prof. Sulaiman D. Muhammad, of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, paid rich tributes to Molvi Abdul Haq.
He said that Molvi Abdul Haq devoted his entire life for the promotion of Urdu language.
It was also suggested that a major thoroughfare in the city be named as Shahrah-i-Urdu.
