KARACHI: Doctors say the MQM leader, Rashid Godil’s condition has improved and all bullets except one in his neck, have been removed from his body, Aaj News reported.
Unknown gunmen shot at him near Bahadurabad, as his car stopped at a signal.
He was transferred to a private hospital, where after a surgery he has been put on a ventilator.
Doctors said that five bullets hit his body, of which two hit his head, one his chest, one his neck and one his jaw. However, none of bullets have harmed any vital organs of his body.
His driver, Abdul Mateen, succumbed to his wounds and died.
His wife who was with him in the car remained unhurt.
Godil was on his way to the MQM headquarters, nine-zero to attend a meeting on the resignations that his party had rendered last week. A meeting had been organized at the party headquarters in the presence of JUI-F cheif Maulana Fazlur Rehman who had reached Karachi on Monday.
Godil is an elected MNA from Karachi NA-252 constituency.
Police said that the area where the shooting took place had several banks, department stores and houses with cctv cameras. “We are collecting footages and are hopeful that we will be able to identify the culprits,” said a police officer at the crime scene.
A Joint Investigation Team will publish a report in 24 hours of the incident.
Meanwhile, MQM workers are praying for Godil’s health at the party headquarters.
MQM MNA, Farooq Sattar while speaking to the media condemned the attack. “This was a cowardly attack,” he said.
He said that at the headquarters, Maulana Fazlur Rehman was speaking to MQM Chief Altaf Hussain when they heard the tragic news.
He said that this was an attack on democracy.
JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also condemned the attack. He prayed that for Godil’s health.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Former President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack.
