LAHORE: The government should announce a policy for the protection of child rights on priority basis.
The demand was raised by Aurat Foundation at its special meeting here on Monday. The meeting strongly condemned the child abuse scandal in Kasur.
Nasreen Zahra, Resident Director Auart Foundation, Lahore, Mumtaz Mughal, Provincial Manager Aurat Foundation and Nabeela Shaheen Advocate shared while sharing their views in the meeting highlighted various aspects of the issue.
They said that it has been observed that girls child abuse cases were much higher but not reported due to cultural and social barriers.
The participants said that it was unfortunate that Kasur children’s abuse would have long term social and psychological implications for the victims and their families, as well as suicidal behaviour, depression, low self-esteem, besides problems with family living with social stigma.
They also demanded effective steps for implementation and enforcement of laws to eliminate violence against children.
