LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench Thursday dismissed a bail petition filed by Shahid Aziz Butt alias Gullo Butt.
The division bench comprising Justice Abdul Sami Khan and Justice James Joseph heard the matter.
Earlier, Gullo’s counsel arguing before the court submitted that an anti-terrorism court (ATC) awarded 11 years and three months conviction to his client on charges of smashing window panes of cars during a police action at Minhaj ul Quran Secretariat.
He contended that the trial court failed to appreciate case facts and convicted his client despite variation in witnesses’ statements.
The counsel also apprised the court that his client’s appeal against conviction was pending in the LHC.
He pleaded the court to suspend the conviction and grant benefit of bail to his client till the final decision of the pending appeal.
However, the bench after hearing the arguments dismissed the bail plea and observed that no bail could be granted in such situations as per the Apex Court’ recent judgements.
