KARACHI: President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday witnessed Pakistan Navy’s four dimensional defence capabilities demonstration here at PNS Qasim, Manora.
According to a Pakistan Navy press release, the demonstration was arranged in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of 1965 War Pakistan.
President Mamnoon Hussain, who was the chief guest on the occasion, was received by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah on his arrival.
Pakistan Navy’s four dimensional capabilities were displayed by Submarine, Aircraft, Naval Commandos and Marines. To cap the event a counter-terrorism demonstration was also held by Naval Commandos.
Speaking on the occasion, the President praised Pakistan Navy’s heroic performances during 1965 War and expressed his entire satisfaction at the level of its capabilities that were demonstrated earlier.
The President stressed that Pakistan was a peace loving nation, however, if required, its armed forces were fully prepared to thwart all nefarious designs.
He said that the government accorded due priority to the defence needs of the country in general and gave importance to advancement and strengthening of Pakistan Navy in particular.
The President assured that allout support would be provided to the Pakistan Navy in meeting its requirements.
Earlier, addressing on the occasion the Naval Chief said that 1965 War characterized the acts of valour and courage demonstrated by Shuhada and Ghazis. The supreme act of bravery, courage and patriotism showed during 1965 War was matchless.
On September 6, 1965, in the midnight when enemy attacked the motherland, the Armed Forces of Pakistan defeated enemy with great courage and bravery, he added.
The Naval Chief also highlighted that during 65 War a formation of Pakistan Navy ships attacked and destroyed Dwarka Radar Station and the deployment of Pakistan Navy Submarine Ghazi kept enemy bottled up in their own waters for entire duration of the war.
He said that under prevalent environment the importance of sea and coastal areas of Pakistan had increased manifold and assured that Pakistan Navy was well aware and committed to its responsibilities of defending sea frontiers of Pakistan.
The Naval Chief reiterated that Pakistan Navy was playing a pivotal role by utilizing all its resources optimally for completion of important projects like development of coastal areas, Gwadar and Pakistan – China Economic Corridor with full dedication and commitment.
Governor Sindh, senior members of Provisional Assembly, diplomats and a large number of Civil and Military dignitaries, families of Shuhada and war veterans were also present on the occasion.
