WEB DESK: The rupee inched up in terms of the dollar on the money market on Wednesday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee moved up one-paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.41 and Rs 104.43 respectively, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee showed no change versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 104.40 and Rs 104.60 respectively, while it sustained overnight levels versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 118.40 and Rs 119.40, they added.
In the third Asian trade, the US dollar wobbled near a 3 1/2-week low against a basket of currencies on Wednesday as further signs of weakness in China fanned expectations that the US Federal Reserve will have to wait longer before any policy tightening.
The Australian dollar slid further from two-month highs as a relief rally in various commodities and risk assets appeared to be running out of steam. The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 65.16, the greenback was at 4.1815 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was available at 6.346 versus the Chinese yuan. RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee weakened against the dollar and the British pound at the open currency markets of Lahore on Wednesday.
Currency dealers said the dollar resumed trading on a higher note at Rs 104.65 and Rs 104.95 on the buying and selling counters, respectively, as against Rs 104.50 and Rs 104.80 on Tuesday. At the close, the dollar improved its worth and closed at Rs 104.60 and Rs 104.90 on the buying and selling counters, respectively.
The pound improved its worth against the rupee though as it was purchased and sold at Rs 159.20 and Rs 160.30 as against Rs 158.80 and Rs 160.00 on Tuesday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 104 (buying) and Rs 104.25 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 104 (buying) and Rs 104.25 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling) against same overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 158 (buying) and Rs 158.50 (selling).
