LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz’s Ayaz Sadiq has been nominated as the 20th Speaker of the National Assembly, Aaj News reported.
On August 22, Sadiq was deseated from his constituency NA-122 after the election tribunal declared his degree to be fake.
While announcing the result, acting speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi said, “Shafqat Mahmood secured 31 votes, while Sardar Ayaz Sadiq got 268 votes.” A total of 300 votes were polled and one vote was found invalid.
“Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been re-elected as NA speaker,” he added.
With the exception of one political party, all others voted for Ayaz Sadiq as speaker for National Assembly.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf had nominated Shafqat Mahmood, as the candidate for speaker in the National Assembly.
While talking to journalists, Sadiq thanked all the parliamentary parties that announced their support to him including PPP, MQM, JUI-F, PML-Q, ANP, PML-Z, PML-F, and Jamaat-e-Islami.
He promised to remain unbiased after becoming the custodian of the house and perform better than his previous incomplete term as the speaker.
