KARACHI: Karachi administration, in compliance with Supreme Court’s orders, has closed 20 Sheesha parlours and arrested 30 managers, including those serving at the outlets, on first day of the crackdown against the culprits.
Officials associated with the crackdown exercise here on Sunday said Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has initiated a stringent campaign against perpetrators of a crime severely compromising public health.
Deputy commissioners of all districts of Karachi have been asked to expedite action against Sheesha parlors across the metropolis with equal attention to ensure that production of Gutka and other hazardous combinations of betel nuts and chemicals are immediately stopped.
The concerned authorities have also been asked to check the sale of cigarettes at shops and kiosks located on the premises of educational institutions or doing business in close vicinity to these facilities.
Moreover, owners of properties who may have given these on rent to Sheesha parlours are being asked to get their property evacuated otherwise these may be sealed by the administration.
