KARACHI: Funeral prayers of the slain pilot, Maryam Mukhtar who died in an air crash on Tuesday have been offered, Aaj News reported.
According to the reports, the funeral prayer was attended by DG Rangers, Core Commander Karachi and other officials of Pakistan Air Force. She was buried at a military graveyard.
Pilot Maryam died on Tuesday when her trainer jet crashed near the central town of Mianwali, the military said, the first such loss for the country’s small community of women pilots.
The crash happened during “routine operational training”, the air force said in a statement. A second pilot survived.
“Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi and Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar were on a routine operational training mission when it encountered a serious in-flight emergency during the final stages of the mission,” an air force spokesman said.
Prayers for Marium were offered in the parliament today.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made a phone call to Marium’s parents and offered his condolence. Talking to her father, the Prime Minister said, “Marium was the nation’s daughter.”
